On Sunday 10th February saw a small, but select band of competitors attend the FEKO Nationals in Sheffield. Jesssica McNicholls, Tilly Moore, Gurmukh Singh, Parminder Singh, Manjinder Singh who represented Elite Karate Association bagged 1 Silver and 3 bronze medals between them.
Our first success came in the female kata event for Wado Ryu practitioners aged 15-17 years. Both Jessica and Tilly performed well in both rounds with Tilly pipping Jessica to second place. It was clear that both raised there game on such a prestigious event and Tilly proved the stronger on the day. Congratulations to Tilly's Silver medal and Jessica's Bronze. We see great thing ahead for these girls!
Now the day drew on and as expected it went well into the evening before men's events got started. First up was the senior men's team event and after a good warm ours boys were ready. Six teams were in the event and we were drawn first, so no luck with bye's in the first round for us. Sadly victory for the team was not on the cards and our lack of experience showed and after two loses the match was over, the opposition went on to win Silver in the team event.
Fingers crossed for the individual events. With the bitter experience of the team event behind them the boys pulled it out of the bag. After some excellent counter attacks and strong techniques we ended the day with a further two bronze medals, for Manjinder and Parminder.
A big thank you to the parents who supported the event, without your help we wouldn't have been able to attend.
Lastly a special thank you to Josh Collins who was team photographer on the day.
Will you be there next year? Do you want to be a part of our future? Well if you train hard and put the time in.
The rewards will all be yours !
